This week, 21st June - 27th June, we're supporting the British Lung Foundation's campaign - Love Your Lungs Week to help raise awareness of lung health.
The importance of the lungs is more advanced than we think. Breathing allows our lungs to provide oxygen to the body and remove carbon dioxide, a waste gas. The whole body requires oxygen to help us move and lets the internal workings of our body perform their function without having to think about it.
Lungs also behave similarly to a filter when considering the other air-based germs and pollutants by preventing these materials from getting into the body.
More information on lung function can be found here.
You can protect the health of your lungs by reducing exposure to high areas of air pollution, quitting smoking and staying active - especially if you have a lung condition.
Earlier in the year, we discussed the benefits of quitting smoking, which is one of the best things you can do for your own health. We also dispelled some common misconceptions surrounding asthma on World Asthma Day.
There's no better time to start to love your lungs than now and this can be enjoyed as part of a healthier lifestyle.
