Using your device

    You have been provided with a CPAP device. The following instructions briefly explain how to use the equipment. A Dolby Vivisol technician will have also explained how to set up and use your equipment during your first appointment. For more detailed instructions, a manual has been included with your device.

    Getting used to your treatment

    It is common for breathing to feel more difficult when you first use the device. However, over time you will get used to the therapy and mask. It is important that you always use the device when you sleep, including any naps. Many patients find it easier to get used to the device by using it when they are relaxing – reading a book or watching TV.

    The first night

    1. Connect the hose to the device
    2. Mount the hose on the mask
    3. Put the mask securely on (your Dolby Vivisol clinician will instruct you on how to correctly do this)
    4. Breathe in and out gently through your nose
    5. Switch on the device
      1. Your device should start providing instantly
      2. If not, your device may automatically start after a few breaths

    Avoiding discomfort from device pressure

    If you wake in the night and find the pressure uncomfortable, follow these steps:

    1. Switch off the equipment briefly (if your device does not have
      an auto-stop function)
    2. Relax by taking off the mask and breathing calmly
    3. When your breathing is calm and relaxed, put the mask on again
    4. Switch the device on again by pressing the on/off button
    5. If your device has a RAMP button that is not automatically activated, press it. This will gently build up therapy pressure as you fall asleep

    Waking up during therapy

    If you wake up and need/want to get out of bed temporarily, follow these steps:

    1. Switch off the device, if your device does not have an auto-stop function
    2. Disconnect the hose from the mask but leave the mask on your face
    3. When you go back to bed, simply reconnect the hose to the mask
    4. Switch the device back on

    The following day

    1. Switch off the device if it doesn’t have an auto-stop function
    2. Disconnect the hose from the mask
    3. Take off the mask
    4. Clean the mask according to the cleaning instructions

    Aerosol / Nebuliser Therapy
